RetroJohn's Blogged Bits!

Clutch OK, Primary Chain buggered though!

So, after months of "shall i, sharn't i" as the clutch was slipping a bit (now getting worse)... i finally pulled the primary cover off to give the clutch a once over... Clutch is fine, though it will certainly benefit from a good clean and adjustment... But, discovered the primary chain has lost a few roller bearing sleeves so just as well i did get in there and have a look!

There's the three shards of roller sleeve. You can see the link that's missing the entire roller, and then the link that still has half a roller intact.

Hothothot!

Well, it's still sweltering up here in the Tropics... the ol' Triumph doesn't like the heat and humidity... prefers cold n' damp! ;-)

Out an' about... still here to tell the tale!

Have been out and about these past few weekends... great weather, if a little too hot (got a bit sun scorched).

Nearly lost it on the Kuranda Range heading up the other morning though. I think whilst leaning into a bend the centre stand made contact with terrafirma and acted a bit like a boat anchor!

I should remember, an' old Triumph can't be pushed around like some of these new bikes! ;-)

Soft Springs up front!?!

The old '68 has had a bit of a soft front end for sometime now... and have been meaning to do something about it, for sometime now...

Talking to our local old Brit' bike guru, Prong, down at Cairns Performance Motorcycles about may be getting new springs and if progressive springs were available for pre '71 Triumphs...

He suggested a little trick, cut about a half inch ring from an appropriately sized piece of PVC pipe and slide in over the fork tube as a spacer... adjust the size if you need more or less 'pre-load'! ;-)

Haven't tried it yet but sounds like a great idea!
